I never imagined I’d want to spend time in a Diahatsu interior, but that looks pretty good.

That’s one VERY nice looking Applause.
I don’t know why but I love those cars. I think Daihatsu has always been making understated cars that are actually awesome and kind of their own niche.
Awesome name list: Mira/Cuore, Sirion, Applause, Charade, Terios, Hijet, etc. are all weird, simple and awesome.
Also, Daihatsu has made some really really neat, little engines. Very high HP/l outputs both for NA and Turbo engines.

The really great thing about Daihatsus is their modular approach, so you can easily swap those Applause 1.6 engines into Charades and Miras and stuff. There is also some commonality with Toyotas of the era, something I should test out by swapping an AE111 4A-G Blacktop /6MT combo into one.

It looks like Japans take on a 90s Saab. I like it, especially the interior

Those rims, very 90s, much want.

I applaud you. There supposedly is an AWD variant of the Applause, if I’m not mistaken. It looks so Japanese, being squarey and subtle, like a mini Toyota Crown. If it was possible (read: if I had money) I would stuff a Terios' drivetrain in an eighties HiJet. AWD key van with four to five times its original power woot?!

I’m weirdly attracted to the Applause. I wish it had been sold here. If Daihatsu had been able to last a couple more years it might have been.

Usually the Clap is something you want to stay away from.
Also DEM WHEELS, steering wheel included.
